that. WAS BUSY.

This morning my house looks like a tornado just hit and my children and I have officially eaten candy for breakfast.  Thank goodness we go to the dentist on Wednesday.

Last night we enjoyed a low key evening of trick-or-treating, followed by hot cider, candy gazing/eating and a movie.  This year I had an 80's rocker, a hippie, Jengo Fett, Bumblebee and a darling little princess!!  A princess........I can't believe it.  ;)

And now for a very lengthy recap of my month.    

October was quite possibly the busiest month I have ever had in my adult life.  At least that I can remember.  Most things on my list got done, but a few things had to take a back seat.    

Here's what happened....At least that I can remember.  ;)

*To start off the month we had a very serious and urgent family matter to take care of.  It literally sucked up all my emotional and physical energy for one very full week.  Of course, it was totally worth it and it ended up in joyous celebration for us.  yay!  

*A very special birthday party for my very special 8 year old son!  We go all out when our children turn 8 because that's the age they get baptized.  Isaac wanted a Halloween Costume Party.....therefore, we had lots of planning and preparing to do!  Here's a couple pic's.    

 

*Started a fun new group on flickr with my fabulous friend Bibi!  It's called Bitty Buntings.  :)  It's just little for now, but hopefully will keep growing.  

*Squeeked in a little sewing for Ava.  No pic....too busy for that.  :(

*Oh, my husband's side of the family had a great idea to put a cookbook together for Christmas time.  We all went online and added our favorite recipes!  We ended up with over 300!  Here's the site we used.

*Lots of secret stuff!  (That means I can't tell!)  ;)

*Some sewing for new babies.  Still working on that.  

*Have been loving taking my homeschooled 8th grader to art lessons on Mondays.  I  get to wander the thrift stores and antique shops that are nearby while I wait.  I do have my 2 little ones in tow, but so far it's been alright.....It feels great to get out!

*A little bit of shop stuff.  Not much of that has been going on with everything else that's been going on.  Did you notice I've had fabric and dress kits out?

*Halloween costumes.  Oh, boy.  One night my 11 year old tromped around town with me to get a combination of odds and ends.  (He's such a great sport and actually fun to shop with!)  We went to 11 stores!!  We went to some thrift stores hoping to find a good hippie jacket.  We ended up with a waffle maker and some groovy sunglasses instead.

*I got my hair cut!!  finally.

*Some passing around of colds and fevers, headaches and sore throats.  ick.  Now the poor hubby just needs to recoup. :(   

*Now mingle that with the rest of what life brings on a day-to-day basis and more of this and that and you have pure and utter......well.....I was going to say "chaos", but does that make me sound like I'm not in control of my life?  Oh well.  I think sometimes I'm not.

And on that note, (or those notes) I'm soooo looking forward to November being more of a recuperating month, with plans of organizing my home, having more healthy food around and preparing for the upcoming holidays.  (We have a great plan I'll talk about later!!)  The other day our family cleaned ALL DAY, and got folded about 20 loads of laundry.  Yep, 20...okay fine,  maybe more.  I know, you're wondering how can my house look like a tornado just hit if we spent ALL DAY cleaning the other day.  Let me clarify.  The day we cleaned, we primarily focused on the upstairs....which at the moment is still in a presentable condition.  The downstairs is what looks like a tornado just hit.  eek.     

Anyway, that's what I meant when I titled this post.......

That. WAS BUSY.  

If I ignored an email or forgot about something....please forgive me.  I don't mind reminders.  :)  

(Time to go hide some candy!  shhhh.)

secrets and to do's

This week I have a big TO DO LIST!  I am a list maker for sure, it helps me and the family stay on track and remember the things we need to get done.  My sister and I once talked about how it's even helpful to write down something simple like..."take nail out of wall" (cuz you moved something from it ages ago and it's STILL there!)  Most of the time my lists are just for me, but sometimes I make one for the household.  It's time to do that again!  When I don't make lists, things get forgotten about and that can just be a bad thing.

My parents are coming to town on Thursday, so my days until they arrive will be very focused on getting the house prepared.  I made a list of other things that needed to get done as well, and not forgotten about in my cleaning frenzy.  I'm sure I'll remember something else and add *it* to the list too!

I've been working on some secrets (shhh...) for new and "still in the tummy" babies lately and so I might get a chance to dabble a little with those.....maybe.  Here's a sneak peek of one thing I'm making, which I think I'm safe showing because I'm almost positive the mommy doesn't look here too often.  I can't wait to get this one finished.  It's been so much fun!

 

I was so happy to have found the perfect spot to use some of my aqua and orange Sprouts and Mushrooms fabric, for sale in my shop!  (This picture is a tad on the light side).

These blocks are simple and quick to make.  I thought it might be a great starter pattern for my friend, Mary, who I get to help learn to quilt!  Yay!  Her husband and mine were in the same mission for our church (a long time ago!) but never actually crossed paths.  Fun to figure those things out!

Too bad I won't be able to get to these until probably next week!  I ordered more fabric from Kerri and was THRILLED to find a bunch of extra surprises!  I love everything!  Aren't these colors the best!?  Okay, well, you don't have to think so....but I SOOO do!  ;)  Thanks a bunch Kerri!

Well, I better get to work!  Seriously.  Like, bad.  My list is enormous and I just remembered and then forgot again about something else.  I hate it when that happens.

merry merry

We've been having a very merry holiday around here, especially since my husband has through New Year's off.  We've been lazing around quite a bit.  Christmas Eve was spent around the tree, doing our annual Luke 2, honoring the birth of our Savior, Jesus Christ.  We always let the kids open jammies before hand and have a little treat.  We attempted a puzzle later, but after opening it up, got rather frightened at the tiny 1000 pieces!  We love a big puzzle at this time of year, but this was a little too much for us.  And we watched Little House on the Prairie: Christmas at Plum Creek....we love it.

 

Christmas morning we held the kids off until 7!  They sat downstairs for a few hours waiting...I think they watched Star Wars or something.  Our highlight gift was the Beatles Rock Band for the Wii.  The kids had so much fun playing it over at my parents house at Thanksgiving, we knew it would be a hit...even Austin will occasionally sing to "Here Comes the Sun".  It's too cute.  Here's Taylor, my 2nd oldest, cheering for himself after singing!  (I think my tree is crooked, and I know it's looking sort of disheveled after a few weeks of baby pulling ribbon and boys hiding guys inside.)

 

We enjoyed a Christmas Day Dinner with my brother, his wife and 2 adorable little ones.  It's wonderful that my Austin has such a fun cousin to play with, they get along perfectly.  And little Sienna adores her Uncle Pete!  :)  I think we have too much fun chatting with Jeff and Julie to remember to pull out the camera!  Julie never disappoints with her food and treat contributions and we so enjoy their company!  :)

I've felt merry about some extra time I've had to complete some new items for the the shop, too!  This is the first illustration, in a series of 4.  This is Laundry Day in the Simplicity Series. 

The pink border and polka dots are not coming out the right pink on Etsy, which is irritating.  It really does all match to her pink dress.

Pete was thrilled to see me add "another color" into my red, pink and aqua obsession.  :)  And I do like it here. 

 

But we all know that red and aqua never fails!  I love it!  :)

For now, my house is a disaster, and I have family coming for New Year's Eve....I think I better get my behind in gear!  Hopefully our company likes the Beatles!!!!!!!!!!!  :)
