Joining the 3 X 6 Mini Sampler Bee was something totally new for me. I've never been a part of something like this before, so I was a little hesitant, but so far I am thinking it's pretty fun! There are seven people in each 'Beehive'. I am actually the Beekeeper! Each person makes a quilt block for each member of the hive. So that's 6 blocks to make. This bee is divided into quarters, so you can join in and drop out whenever you like and it goes all year. So each quarter, you make the 6 blocks. One question I have is if we keep the same Beehive all year or if they change up?? It seems like they would have to sort of change at least a little because of the new one's coming in or someone dropping out. So far I have been just collecting up some fabrics, but I have until the middle of March so I'm okay. I've received my first 2 blocks in the mail and I love them both! In the beginning, everyone gave a list of colors, themes and preferences for the others to see. Then each person decides what pattern to make the block, using each persons preferences and also using fabrics from your own stash. SO, the mystery has been fun! I look forward to making blocks for my hive....hopefully before March 14th!! (Just kidding)
Here's my block from Jeni:
sorry about the wrinkles, the block really is sewn so perfectly! And here's my block from Leigh:
Can anyone guess what my color preferences are? I know I'm shocking you. I also asked for any woodland type fabrics IF that person had any on hand and didn't mind sharing. Not a big deal though. They are expensive because they are usually japanese fabrics or pricey and rare HR, like the pink gnomes, and I certainly didn't want anyone feeling that they Had to go purchase some or give some up out of their stash. But as you can see, both Jeni and Leigh were so sweet and generous with some of these themed fabrics for me. Cute!!!
Both of them are so fun and talented! Jeni has an amazing pyrex collection, which I wish I had, especially her pink and aqua ones!!!!!! So cute! My baby broke one of my aqua bowls....sad. :( And she has this cute little bunny named George. Leigh sells pretty jewelry and has 4 boys just like me! Plus, we realized our families know each other, even though we have never met. Small world!
Thank you both for the super pretty quilt blocks! I love them! And I promise you'll get one from me too! :)
