surprises

*Last week was full of surprises!  One thing I've had a lot of fun working on is the Scrappy Pincushion Swap over on flickr.  Since nobody knows who is making their pincushion, it's fun to look at the photos posted in the group to see what might be yours!  Here's what I've been working on for my very fabulous partner! 

I know....my partners' tastes are like mine!  I loved making these tiny hexies for her!  These are the 1/2" size.  They are a bit 'fiddlier' to work with, but still as addicting as making the larger ones.  I'm a little further on the pincushion now, but I think I'll just wait till the finished to show. ;)  For the swap, each person submits a mosaic of favorites,  to inspire and lead their partner as to what to make for them.  This is the mosaic I put together for my partner.  Great fun on flickr I tell ya!  ;)

*We've been having some gray days around here lately, so when my hubby brought these colorful roses home on one of those particularly gray days, and for no apparent reason, I was super surprised and happy!  They surely brightened up the kitchen and Ava was enamored!

 

 

*Another fabulous day was celebrating Austin's 5th Birthday!  The surprises weren't for me, but for him of course, and it was great to see him smiling.  Such a happy little guy!

*I also thoroughly enjoyed this nice HUGE oatmeal raisin cookie from Great Harvest Bread that my super sweet visiting teachers brought over....Just to tell me they love me!  I snarfed it down so quickly, I barely remembered to snap a photo!  This is all I had left to show!

 

Ava helped me finish it off, which made her one happy little girly!! 

 

*And last, but not least, I received a very sweet 'Thank You' in the mail from a flickr friend for helping with a couple quarters of the 3 X6 Sampler Quilt Mini Bee.  Thank you Tiffany!  ;)

 

As you can see, I've been one happy person lately!  :)

long time no see

In case you couldn't tell, I've been taking it a little easy (er) these days.  And oh, it's been good!  Not that I'm not still busy...I most certainly am, but I'm trying to balance things better.  (hopefully!) 

We were able to get out of town over Labor Day and enjoyed a wonderful week of outings, yummy lunch's and dinners, hanging out, watching the kids swim, lots of chatting, a little antiquing and just the plain happiness of getting away for a bit.

We took the younger kids to a place called Mobius Kids....sort of like a mini Science Center.  The kids loved it, of course.  

 

My favorite thing was going to the farms and orchards where we went peach picking, took a tractor ride, and played in the peas!

They had this huge "peas box" full of dried peas that the kids played in for quite awhile.  They also had some goats to visit, a picnic area and a cute little store.  The kids bought a ton of honey sticks there!

Peach picking was a highlight for me.  Yummy, juicy, pretty!

 

This is an outfit I made for Ava and thought it was perfect for our peach picking day!

She LOVED eating the peaches!  Even if they fell on the ground....mmmmm.  ;)

I happened to to snap a couple darling photos of 2 of my nieces.  Such sweetness!

The tractor ride through the orchards was amazing!  It was so beautiful!  During the ride, the driver would stop and pick a few peaches and give them to us riders.  He kept stopping until everyone had a peach.  MMMM!  We saw lots of peach trees, apple trees, and even plum trees.  So fun!

Another great time was going out to Deer Lake.  We went to a quaint little resort for boat riding, beach playing, hot-dog-roasting, s'more-making fun!  Doesn't a s'more sound good right now?

We had a spot that had this cute covered wagon.  Perfect for everyone's stuff and to change or have a quiet place for a baby.  Plus, the kids thought it was a cool place to play!

Unfortunately, a couple cousins are missing from the photo below because we remembered to take it after they left. :(

 

The best part of our 'getaway' was just being with my family and also watching my kids have fun with their cousins!  We hope to go back sooner, than later!
